What's the value in it, for those of us who manually update apps? I can 
understand a value if one has Automatic Updates enabled. I'm sure I'll 
eventually get used to it,

No, as far as I know, there's no way to delete this information. Since 
the apps are listed in reverse chronological order, I don't find this to 
be clutter at all.
