I was using the BARD Mobile app this morning just fine. My wish list was updated, and I was able to download a book. I just checked now though, and I'm experiencing the same problems you describe. I suspect you're right and the server(s) being access by the mobile app need a bit of TLC that they may not get until the shutdown is over.

At this moment, the BARD Mobile app, which I think is great, is pretty much
non-functional for me. I suspect this is, of course, due to the U.S.
government shutdown. The BARD site itself works fine for me in Safari, and I
am able to download books using my PC. Beginning a couple of days ago,
however, the app started saying I had no items in my Wish List even when I
knew I did have some, and it was also telling me that there were 0 items in
all of the Recently Added listings. If I left the app sitting there, it
would eventually just say that the request timed out, and I could not access
items. I could transfer and read Braile books fime via Dropbox or iTunes
File Sharing and access them without a problem, and audiobooks I had
transferred prior to Thursday or so were playing fine. However, in the last
couple of days, I had tried transferring audiobooks via Dropbox or iTunes,
since I could not download any with the app; I suspect the actual ZIP file
transfer and unpack went without a problem, but when the app tried to obtain
an authorization from NLS servers for the book, I was just told that the
request timed out, and the books never appeared on my Bookshelf. I just
tried deleting and reinstalling the app to see if that would solve my woes,
and now, I cannot even log in to Bard. The app just tells me, of course,
that the request has timed out. Hence, as I said, I cannot use it at all
right now.

Just FYI if anyone else is also experiencing such issues...

Regards,
Maria

I also am quite happy with the app with two exceptions, it is next to
impossible to use the subject listing, mine jumps all over the place and I
resort to going back to the computer to send to my wish list. The second
think I would like to see changed is I wish they would add a sleep button
instead of me having to go to the timer to make it sort of work. I have
gotten to the point of using Audible if I want to read in bed for a bit
because it is so very easy to set the sleep timer inside that app.

I guess it is a sort of picker for the author, title or subject listings
but, inside the app it just seems to get stuck on animals or bounces
everywhere but where I'd like. Thank goodness I have a computer.

I have one book on my stream I am reading, one on the iPad mini, and two on
the phone, not to mention stuff I have used in Kindle and Bookshare. Just
depends on mood, time, or need as to what I choose to read.
Would any of you who have been blind most of your lives have thought say 15
years ago that we would have so many choices?

Well, I think this app is very good, especially for a 1.0 release.

I haven't had any problems with my wish list getting populated, and my
download speeds have been much better than experienced in the message below.
Downloads speeds are also effected by quite a few things outside of an app's
control.

Remember too that the US government is shut down, through no fault of this
app, so the servers are up and running but aren't being monitored.
I wouldn't be surprised if they need some TLC occasionally to fix some
performance issues, again not unlike any servers, private or public.

I also don't think political opinions or anyone's opinions about the
government are appropriate for this list. IMHO, criticism of the app should
be based on the app itself and not one's opinion of the government.

I still let it sit there.
Within another 30 to 60 seconds, I have the three books I knew were
on my wish list showing up.
I decided to try downloading one.
It first just flicked back to the wish list after I hit OK on down load.
Then, a while later, it said downloading.

It has sat on zero percent for about a minute now.

It is five minutes later and it is up to 25 percent.
If it doesn't down load, I'll write again, but I am going to go on
the assumption that it is simply going to take a lot of patience to
work with the wish list until the government is back up and running.

I hope I haven't lost it completely, that it will come back when
things get back to normal.

It may be up, but there may not be staff there to do updates,
maintenance,
etc. Several Federal web sites will come up when you try to access
them, but the links may not work, etc. This will become more
noticable the longer the shutdown persists.

Sounds to me to be that the web site is not really up. Isn't the
site
shut
down because of the government fiasco?

I did this this morning and it took some time for the newly added
books
to
show in my wish list. It took maybe 2 minutes? Try opening the app
and going to the wish list and waiting for a bit.

Hi all.
So, I added some books to my wishlist like I always do from the
website on my computer. Before when I'd do this I'd go to the ap
on my phone, into my wishlist and download them. But, now, when I
go into the ap, they're not there. I know they've been added, but
they're not there. I've closed the ap using the ap switcher...
reopened it... but still nothing. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
