In January, I bought a Ballistic Hard Core case for my iPhone 5. This was shortly after the consumer electronics show. At that time, many of the vendors who sold rugged and durable electronic equipment to the military and construction industry were just beginning to offer iPhone cases for the consumer market. Their products were going to be introduced this summer. My case is better than the Otterbox because it sandwiches the iPhone tightly between two very hard pieces of plastic, exposing the screen with a screen protector. This encases the iPhone completely and visually the device likely won’t be recognized as an iPhone. This sort of defeats the purpose of a golden iPhone though. I understand it is elegant and sparkling. On the other hand a toddler could pick up my iPhone in a Hard core case and give it a forceful toss without damaging it. It is a little bulky, but I have the protection of something virtually indestructible. Otterbox cases clamp the iPhone into place, which can wiggle and scratch the glass of the screen. Also the sides of the iPhone are much more exposed than on the Ballistic iPhone case, which encases the iPhone completely between a form fitting upper and bottom layer. Consider the hard core case but also the new cases from the rugged device companies.
