Both the 5 and 5S use the same size SIM card. Use the extraction tool, or a straightened paperclip, to push in to the tiny hole on the right side of the iPhone. Once you get the tool into the hole, you need to push with decent pressure. The SIM drawer will come slightly out. As you remove the tool, the drawer will come out somewhat more. Take the drawer out on the 5 first so you get a feel for it, the amount of pressure you need, and so forth. You will find the drawer feels like an open, long, thin rectangle made of plastic. The SIM card sits on one side of the rectangle. The rectangle will only go in one way. If you attempt to put it in upside down, it will stop going in after a little distance. Practice this with the empty drawer on the 5 so you learn how it feels to put it in correctly, and to put it in upside down.
Now, set the 5 SIM drawer to the side. I recommend using a plate or a bowl to put the drawer in so you do not lose it. I do this with screws and pieces when I work on equipment. Next, take the drawer of the 5S out. As you take it out, hold the SIM card to the drawer. If you keep it in place, you will not need to mess with putting it back into place on the drawer in the correct alignment. You can use the 5S drawer in the 5, so bring the drawer with the SIM card on it straight across to the 5 and slide it in. Once in the 5, activate the iPhone. Remove the drawer and SIM from the 5 after the iPhone is fully activated. Place the drawer and SIM back into the 5S. Take the empty drawer out of the place you put it for storing and place it back in the 5. Note: if the SIM separates from the 5S drawer, it only fits one way that will allow the drawer to slide all the way into the phone. When it is in this way, it also fits more flush to the drawer.
