Hi Tracy,

I had the same problem in the beginning, it worked well for a while and then
not so much. I realized that using the tip of whatever finger you are using
was my problem. Once I used the area a bit further down from the tip, sort
of between the tip of the finger and the first joint, things improved a lot.
Certainly it seems that turning on Reduce Motion improves fingerprint
scanning as well. This was once again mentioned as well in the most recent
Today in iOS podcast where a caller said that after turning it on
fingerprint recognition was much improved. Anyhow, you did already say you
turned it on.
I use my right thumb almost always so I scanned it onto 3 of the 5 available
positions, i.e. I did all the scans for fingerprint 1, then I set up
fingerprint 2 also with my thumb and also fingerprint 3. I used 4 and 5 for
another finger, but the more you scan it the better it will work. Ever since
I use more of the pad of my thumb below the very tip and did multiple scans
of the same finger it's been consistently working extremely well.
Certainly it won't hurt to also occasionally clean the sapphire crystal
which covers the home button, if you have a micro fibre cloth like the ones
they sell together with cleaning fluid for LCD screens I would recommend it,
but you can also just use a paper towel or tissue, the sapphire crystal is
extremely hard and you don't have to worry about scratching the surface.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Try Again

Hi all,

My iPhone5s is telling me this with greater increasity lately, as I attempt
to use the finger print reader. Quite frankly, it is driving me nuts!!! So
much so, I've been tempted to return to having a unlocked phone. What stops
me, is the finger print reader was one of the biggest reasons for going for
the 5S.

Please, any tips on consistent finger print reading success?

I have recreated prints a few times, with positive results for a handful of
days. Right now, I'm using my left thumb & my right middle finger.

Should I use something to clean my home button? Is the finger print soft
wear in it's infancy, therefore still needs improvement?

Lol, any words of wisdom are welcome here.

Thanks,
Traci
