I thought that was how it worked, trying your solution several times
yesterday, with no luck. What didn't I try? As with a lot of computer
problems, a reboot of the thing has your solution working now. Thanks.And
if I had just rebooted it yesterday.

I'm sure there are multiple ways to do this, but double tap and hold on
the folder name, or any app or folder name on your home page. Do this
before opening the folder who's name you want to change. Now double tap on
the folder who's name you want to change, and you'll see that the name of
the folder is now an edit field. Double tap on the name, and your keyboard
will appear.
