Hi to the person who wondered why the microphone on DropVox was not set higher. I can only say that if I hold the microphone about a foot from me and talk in a normal voice, I peak at about -4 DB which is well within, if not a bit above, the suggested dynamic range. It may simply be that you were a good ways from the person speaking. On the other hand, I don't know how various iPhone models work with respect to their microphone volume. I am using an iPhone 5.
I'm not sure this helps, but I don't know of many microphones if any that would be louder than the onboard microphone.
