I think the blindness community is a lot more like the general
population than you think. There will be lots of gnashing of teeth by
the general population when Google restricts third party apps from using
Google voice, just as there was when Google shut down Google Reader or
when AOL stopped maitaining Winamp. Just go to any CNET review and read
the comments or check out the reviews on Amazon or comments to almost
any blog or Facebook entry. Sighted people aren't shy about voicing
their discontent with a product, a price or someone else's opinion. Just
as in the sighted community, there will always be a vocal minority in
the blindness community. Any developer takes a lot of heat from at least
some users when they put a product in the field, just take Microsoft and
Windows as an example. I think if your fellow blind consumers are
pissing you off then you just don't realize how whiny sighted customers
can be.

I don't think they were in the wrong by releasing Fleksy VO, since they
intend to roll both apps into one later this year. Regarding the initial
blog post from Jonathan, be sure to read all the comments.
DeanMartinno and I both make good comments after the first 6 or 7 people
saying that they're going to uninstall Fleksy from their devices. Which by
the way, what does that accomplish?

keyboard solution that the blind can use to speed up their typing on
an touch screen device? In my opinion I find this decision
deplorable but if there is a solution that is out there such as the
one that they offer in Fleksy VO that can make my life easier when it
comes to using an on screen keyboard then I will use it, and now that
more apps will be updating and making use of the Fleksy SDK that just
came out of beta today, I will probably use it even more often than I
have been.
I have written a blog post on this subject that I invite you all to
read in which you can read the Fleksy press release if you like and I
even link to Jonathan' Mosen's blog post on the subject of Fleksy VO as
well.
Please if you have a few minutes go give it a read and then let me
know what you think. I really do want to get everyone's opinion on
this, even the negative ones. It will all help me to understand what
it is that iOS users will find interesting and want to read.
