Hi Andrew, I will try to remember all of the tips I have read in the past for Prizmo.
1. Make sure you have plenty of light. If you are using natural sun light, make sure to be facing the window, so you don't cast a shadow onto the text to be scanned. 2. I use my iPhone in portrait mode and the back facing camera. I also have a case on my phone, which has given me more to grab from. I do use both hands with the thumb on one side and 1-2 fingers on the other. We are all different, so you will need to figure out aha is comfortable for you to use. 3. I place the bottom edge of the paper butted up against the edge of the table, so it is straight. 4. when practicing at the beginning, I folded the paper lengthwise and then in half. the center point and creases gave me a reference point on where the right edge of the phone should be placed, which is in the center where the horizontal and vertical crease intersected. Oh my! I forgot to say that I printed out a test page to use. Because I have been using different OCR apps for a while, I do use the above principle, but I just eyeball it now. this is after lots of scanning. I hope this gets you started. I can't recommend highly in considering purchasing the StandScan Pro, if you want the best accuracy. I can say that I can get a 100% accurate scan with it. Good luck.
