Both my wife and I have an iPad air. Sense I have the iPhone 5s, I was abil to send my contacts directly from my iPhone to my iPad. When my wife wanted some of my contacts, it was childs play to shoot them to her. As I understand it, pictures can be shaired as well and this probably is the most common use with the sighted.
