Hi, you can do this in several ways.
1. Have all Google voice texts forward to your real cell number. This
makes it so you might have to add what I call gateway numbers into your
contacts. However you have the same texting experience as texting from
your regular number. For example, if my number is 303-757-7730 and I
send you a text to your Google voice number and you have it forwarding
to your cell number, you might get a text from 567-202-1292 and at the
beginning of the text it will show my real number or name if I'm in your
contacts. You can then add that 567 number to your contacts, maybe call
it Raul GV or something to note that it's for me and that it's a Google
Voice Number. Now any time you call that number, or text it, even though
it's not my real number, I will still get the call or text and my caller
id will show it's coming from your Google voice number, not your real
cell number.
2. Second option is to use a push service like Boxcar. With boxcar you
get a unique email address to use for push services. You then have to
forward your Google voice texts to this email address. Once you do, each
time you get a text, it's forwarded to this unique email address and
Boxcar sends you a push notification and gives you the option of simply
reading the text, or opening your preferred Google voice app to go and
respond to it. Remember that Boxcar is mostly a push notification
service, so you won't be able to respond to the text, or start a new one
using this app. You will still need a Google Voice app to have the best
functionality, and that leads me to option 3.
3. This option is where you have my favorite Google Voice app called GV
Connect. The link is
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gv-connect-call-sms-google/id347835665?mt=8
and the developer is aware of Voice Over and has made sure the app is
Voice Over friendly. If you use this app and iOS 7, and allow it to run
in the background, you will be notified when you have a new text message
from the app. if you get another app to go along with it, talkatone, you
can use this app and talkatone to make data-only calls using your Google
voice number. Since I have unlimited voice minutes on my plan, it's not
an issue for me, but it's there in case you want it.
There are many other options you can take advantage of, but the ones I
mention above are if you are not jailbroken, and if you want the easiest
set up solutions. Navigating the Google Voice site to change settings
can be a bit tricky with screen reading software. I can do it the
easiest with Window-Eyes, especially when it comes to making setting
changes. So, good luck, and write if you have questions about this.

notifications when someone texts you on google voice, I forgot what it was,
any ideas?
