Hello Alex,
For your issue what you have to do is manually input the track names yourself.
one-bye-one. Since you downloaded the mp3 files from other sources than I
tunes, most likely those tracks will show up at the bottom of your I Tunes
library, after the alpha order, as “unknown title, unknown artist”.
So, under the alt, file tab, look for “get info” once you have placed focus on
the mp3 song in the library list.
Once in the “get info” tab, the first edit box will allow you to input name
of track, and then tab to next edit field, here you can enter the name of the
artist, don’t worry too much about the 3rd edit fielt....then hit enter and
you will see that the newly named song will appear in your main music library
in order of how you have set up the list view in alpha order. For example.
artist name/song title/jauneria etc.
You can also use the applications key, or Shift F10 to find the get info tab,
however, if you use this method, most likely the get info tab is located
within the Summary tab. So Summary first then get info tab, just so you know.
I myself do this all the time, it is a bit tricky to master at first, but once
you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy, yet time consuming, but I don’t
think there is another work around for this issue at this time.
Hope this helps, and Happy downloading!
TC.
Nasreen.

No, I'm talking about being able to look up track names for commercial Cd's
that I've downloaded from places I probably Shouldn't. I expect to get a knock
on the door from the Apple police within half an hour.
Cheers
Alex

Hi,

If you rip a commercial CD, iTunes can usually look up the track names. With
homemade CDs, however, it generally can't. Alex, when you say it can look up
tracks, are you talking about looking up track names for commercial CDs?

Best,
Anna

Without tags, all your music would have titles like Track 1 and Track 2. I
should think you would want them to have album title, track title, track
number, and artist so you'll know what they are and albums will play in order.

Anna, that is a valid point. My CDs are pretty much home brew, that is,
compilations of stuff I have either gotten from the internet or recorded from
services such as Pandora or Sirius.

Thanks for the response.
