So, if the third-party app uses XMPP, then yes, it will stop working in May 2014. For example, people like you and me who have an unlocked phone bridge from Obihai, called the Obi Talk, and use it as a home phone service with Google Voice, will need to find a different solution very soon. I believe that apps like Talkatone which use Google Talk to make and receive Google Voice calls will also stop working. Apps like GV Connect which use Talkatone as a backbone to make data only calls via Google Voice will also stop working. I can only hope that the texting service that GV Connect uses to get the messages to and from Google Voice isn't using XMPP. Otherwise, it too will stop working.
