No, that is probably not what is causing the problem. Double-tap list button to turn list on and off. The active status of list determines how calendar responds in any given view.
With list on, calendar remains in month view when double-tapping any day, and the bottom of the display is populated with the appointments for that day. The three finger vertical swipe changes the month, or double-tapping back button goes into a list of the months. Double-tap on the month to open it. If list button is off (not selected), double-tapping on a day opens day view. Whilst in day view, double-tapping on list button places calendar into a chronological list of all appointments. This is for the people who wish to have their appointments shown in a continuous list. There is no list in year view. Try double-tapping list button to turn list off. Go into either month or day view (depending on how you wish the appointments to be displayed), and double-tap list button to activate it. Personally, I prefer month list view which displays my appointments for the selected day under the month view. In this view, double-tapping a day selects it. Double-tapping add sets the day into the add appointment date selector field.
