Yes, you can put music into a Dropbox folder and the Dropbox app will actually play music files or there are any number of apps which might do so and which you can use to play music. Personally I would advise your friend to deal with iTunes if she wants to get the most out of her iPhone or other iDevice. I think there are still people who have this perceived fear of iTunes and that it’s not very accessible whereas in fact it is very accessible and just a matter of learning.
