That's helpful and a great reminder. Here's a bit I found on that from

Understanding Automatic updates

You no longer have to update apps manually in iOS 7; they'll update
automatically. If you don't want them to auto update, go into Settings, then
the

iTunes & App Store

and under Settings you'll find Automatic Updates with an option to toggle
Updates off. You can also tell them not to use Cellular Data with the toggle
below, so they'll only

update via Wi-Fi.

The nice thing about backing up your apps to your computer is, if you
install a newer version of an app and it goes from accessible to not
accessible, you only have to delete the new app and then sync your iPhone
with your computer and iTunes and you'll get the old version of the app
back. Note: you'll still get the ubiquitous notifications that a new
version of this app is available.

Thanks, Alan, I do sync regularly but was not realizing that phone apps were
being updated on the PC in the process...DUH! Updating on the PC's DSL line
is quite slow, which is why I was thinking about the various app date
possibilities.

If you don't sync your phone to your computer using iTunes, the apps
obtained through your phone have no way of getting to the computer and will
become outdated. The various versions of an app are named containing the
version number in the filename so that any synced to your computer should be
in the Mobile Applications subfolder.

I usually update apps on my phone- so do the apps in iTunes on the PC get
out of date when I update this way? Thanks for clarifying :)
