If it has only happened once, or only happens very occasionally, it is most likely just a fluke.
In my case, I occasionally accidentally press the power button whilst putting my iPhone back into my pocket. Most recently, my keys pressed the home button on my iPhone right after I replaced it in my pocket. In these cases, the device automatically turns the screen on and announces the time.
