At&T and sprint have incompatible cell phone technologies.  However,
your wife could take her AT&T phone and use it on T-Mobile.  Your wife
could use an iPhone 5 on the Ting service which is on the Sprint
network.  ting is a big discounter.  Check out my December article on
AppleVis called "iPhone on the Cheap."
