I have no problems at all with the finger print sensor. It works perfectly every time, both for unlocking the phone and purchasing from the app store. Try to add another fingerprint, even if it's the same finger and see if you can get it to work. Also, a tip that works really well for me, is not to hold my finger on the fingerprint scanner but just to hold it for about a second and then take my finger off, then it will unlock my phone. If I keep my finger on the home button and wait for it to unlock, it seems to have a lot of trouble.
