Can you use the edit text field to use natural language for your appointment, then edit it as needed. This may require less flicking around as the date you typed or dictated in should show up. Also, I usually just use Siri to enter appointments as I am lazy! :) The only bummer to using Siri is I can't figure out how to set the reminders/alerts for the appointment through Siri. :) BTW, I had no idea how to do the date choosing, those are some excellent instructions. :)
