Hi Jen, Regarding your request for great accessible apps for your iPad, I experimented with lots of apps and found the following to be the best for my needs:
Calculators: 1. Talking scientific calculator. very accessible and very complete in VoiceOver and calculator feature set. The Talking Scientific Calculator has the ability to use fractions, but it is a bit of a chore to use this feature. $5 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/talking-scientific-calculator/id411433609?mt=8 2. Fractions Calculator: 100% completely VoiceOver accessible and incredibly easy to use. This app fills the gap of the previous calculator as this app makes working with fractions very easy. $1 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fraction-calculator-by-palasoftware/id864269023?mt=8 Recording app: Clear Record An app I've used regularly to record voice Notes is called Clear Record. I chose this app because it starts recording immediately after double-tapping on the icon. In other words, you don't have to open the app then look around for the "record" button, it will simply begin recording at launch. $1 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/clearrecord-premium-noise/id395704227?mt=8 Like any other app or piece of software for your computer, there will be a bit of a learning curve, but after you learn the interface and how to interact with these apps, you will find them very useful in your everyday life. <Smile>. If you change the switch mode for locking and unlocking orientation, where would you then find the ability to lock and unlock the orientation since you are not using the switch anymore. I will try and answer the questions I can. The iPad doesn't have calculator, voice memos, or the flashlight. You can download apps from the app store to fill in those gaps though. The iPad let's you use the side switch for muting or for locking and unlocking orientation. You can change the behaviour of the switch under settings and general. The iPad also doesn't have the vibrate option. As far as I know, that is only available on the iPhones. I'm not sure how to see most recent in the Facebook feeds, since I am having this problem myself. I can do it on the phone, but I'm having problems getting it to work on my iPad. I'm not sure about the chat thing either. When I want to use Facebook chat, I just hit the messages button and send messages that way. Sorry I couldn't help any further than that. ---------- Earle On May 26, 2014, at 7:16 AM, Jen Colley <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi, > Just a few observations and questions about my new iPad mini. > Why is it that although the ios version is the same of that of the phone, > not all the apps are the same.
