There is no audible feedback directly from the Flex. You get all info from the app on the phone. The app is easy to use, and you would get a lot from the podcast David Woodbridge did on it. I like mine a lot. All data is based on step count though, so if you exercise another way, you won't really learn much. The app is free in the app store. Good luck.
