You could also bypass iCloud all together. I use Google as my master contacts list and have it synced across my i-devices and to my Outlook with the Google contact sync program. This way, I don't have to worry about duplicates or having a contact's information on one device and not the other. If I change or add or delete a contact's information on one device, then it'll get synced across all others.
