I find the best results to be with Red Laser. For smaller items that are round, like cans or yogurt containers, I simply rotate the item in front of the camera, perhaps six inches away. After one or two circuits, I move the item up or down to scan a new area and rotate again. I usually find codes on these items within a minute, often far less. Boxes are harder, but eventually you'll get to know where the codes are on things you use a lot. For instance, I now know on which side the code is on the pasta boxes we use. Other than that, it's a matter of scanning at the right height and waiting to find the code. Also, in Red Laser, don't forget to enable the light (top right corner) for much, much better results.
