Hi Ann,

There is only one version of iTunes you can use and that one is best
installed from the computer where you want to use it and the Apple website.
Here is what you do:

1. Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes

2. Use control+Shift+F to bring up the Jaws Find dialogue and ttype
"download" into the search box, then press enter. If you make sure you are
at the top of the page when you do this it will put right onto the "Download
iTunes Now" link.

3. Press enter to activate the link.

4. On the next page just use the Jaws quick nav key for "buttons"
which is "b" and press it until you find the "download Now" button. If you
use Internet Explorer you should hear the message about the notification bar
where you can select to "run" or "save". Use Alt+N to bring focus to these
buttons. I prefer to save the installation file first and then run it from
my hard drive, but especially if you have a fast internet connection you
could just run it. Keep in mind that it is a relatively large file so it may
take a while for it to download before the install wizard starts.

5. In the installation wizard just accept the default choices and
continue to press Next.

There is a set of scripts John Martin wrote which are called blindTunes and
which some people find helpful. They make a few things more accessible, but
you best check this out as there is a Podcast on the BlindTunes website
which you can find at the following address:

If you want to start with John's description/demo of what BlindTunes does,
look for the following link:

iTunes is actually very accessible as it is if you have one of the latest
versions of Jaws. Jaws 15 is of course best, but Jaws 14 and even 13 should
work well. Here Jonathan Mosen did a 2-part Podcast which I would definitely
recommend. It's done in typical Jonathan fashion which means it's done
extremely well. The Podcast was done as part of the FS Cast series of
podcasts and it was done with Jaws 14 and after iTunes 11 came out so it's
very much up-to-date. Below are the direct links for both episodes:

Part 1: Episode 73, December 2012

Part 2: Episode 74, January 2013

apart from that Ari's offer for some one-on-one help might be a good way to
go after you listened to Jonathan's Podcast which I would do first so you
get an overview of how things work in iTunes.

One last suggestion would be that you not use the sidebar in iTunes 11. This
is not turned on by default, but if it is turned on it makes iTunes look a
bit more like iTunes 10 which a lot of people think is easier. However, a
recent article which somebody posted to the list a few days ago suggests
that in iTunes 12 the sidebar will be finally gone completely and iTunes 12
will be released simultaneously with iOs 8 in mid to late September. It is
not a good idea to not upgrade iTunes as you may not be able to backup and
restore properly or at all if you have, for example, iOS 8 and iTunes 11. It
is therefore better to always update iTunes when updates are released and
iTunes will prompt you to do so automatically.

I found a while back that I like iTunes without the side bar better and it
is just as easy to use. Remember, in iTunes you mostly use the tab key to
move around, the F6 key is also important to jump to certain areas and it's
useful to know that, for example, Control+1 will always take you to your
music library, Control+2 to your movie library, Control+3 goes to the TV
Shows library, Control+6 to the books library, Control+8 goes to your apps
and Control+0 goes to the iTunes Store page. OK, so at least in iTunes 11
this is the case, I guess we have to wait and see how this works in itunes
12. I am not terribly worried that accessibility takes a big step backwords
in itunes 12, but then again one never knows.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Is there a version of ITunes that is more accessible to use with JAWS or is
there even a choice? Where is the best location to download the program
from?
