When I tap my credit card here I still have to locate the terminal because I have to actually physically touch the side of the card where the chip is embedded to the terminal which I guess is why they call it "tapping". This of course is good because if the reader could read the card from a foot or 2 away I'm sure criminals would quickly find ways to take money off your card by walking close to you.

In the U.S., at least where I am, credit cards, and debit cards run as credit, require a signature. Debit cards run as debit require only a pin. To my knowledge, there are no limits; a $1.50 candy bar or a $1,000 Macbook have those same rules. Of course, NFC and an iPhone6 would alleviate many annoyances for blind consumers - signing on electronic screens where you can't easily use a signature guide, orienting your card the right way, locating the card machine (especially if it's a moveable one), and so on. Next Tuesday is certainly going to be an interesting day. Depending on which store there is a limit, e.g. I think at Safeway I can tap my card if my grocery purchase is under $100, if it's more I have to still put in my PIN. I guess in the States using a PIN with a credit card is not very widely spread, either, here it is common place. You stick in your card, enter your 4-digit Pin just like with a bank card and off you go, no signature necessary. I know Google Wallet supports MasterCard's technology to do it at merchants that are set up for it, but I heard it hasn't taken off all that well yet. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dr. Avnish Chopra M.D." <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > To: "ViPhone" <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, September 01, 2014 9:56 AM Subject: NFC-Near Field Communication The new iPhone six will most certainly have NFC! Today Apple also tied up with American Express, Visa and Mastercard! This along with touch ID for confirming payments will ensure an excellent and fast way of spending your money! Easily and effortlessly :-) Any comments? -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default.
