Hi, can you skip time? I downloaded podcast and so far works well
but, there are many more that suggests to use downcast. I know that I ant to
delete podcasts after listening because of space. I only have 16 gig iphone 4s
and it books and podcasts. well, you all know what happens with memory. I
appreciate all your wisdom. I know that I don’t respond to many questions on
these lists and that is that I am still learning . Andy and Shubert

Downcast offers many more features than the native iOS podcasting app. iCatcher
is also very good, but I at least find the downcast app an over all better
layout and superior experience.

The only feature where I’ve found the new Overcast app to be superior is that
it offers 3x playback speed where as Downcast can only go up to 2x. Downcast
does indeed offer “3x” as one of their menu options, but instead of speeding up
the rate of speech, the audio begins to skip making it impracticle to use.
Other then that, Overcast has got a ways to go.

I’ve written the Downcast Dev about the playback issue that only started with
an update in March, but so far, there’s been no indication that that particular
bug will be fixed.

I know the 3x as opposed to the 2x option can also be a matter of personal
preference, but for those of us who are used to and like to listen to
information at a faster rate, it does make a difference. Especially if you’re
subscribed to a lot of podcast feeds. It’s a real time saver.

I have Downcast set to where it only downloads podcast when I am on Wi-Fi. Once
the podcasts are downloaded and I have listen to them, I am able to delete
them. You will not regret this application if you are into podcast.

Are you on WiFi or cellular data when you have to do this? I have allowed
Downcast to use cellular data to download and stream episodes and I don’t have
to manually enable the download queue, the Podcasts I set up to download do so
automatically as soon as I open the app and it’s done checking for new episodes.

I also prefer Downcast over the native Podcast app although the Apple Podcast
app has one big advantage and that is that you can use SIRI to control
playback. If you have Podcasts in Apple’s Podcast app, you can say “Play the so
and so Podcast to SIRI or you can say while it’s playing “Skip ahead 2 minutes”
or “Skip back 42 seconds” or whatever.

Maybe it's just me, but I found Apple's Podcasts app to be really confusing
compared to Downcast. I guess it goes without saying that I much prefer
Downcast over Podcasts. I will say that it took me a bit to figure out that in
Downcast, you have to go to the downloads tab and enable be download queue
before podcast episodes that you've told Downcast to download will start to do
so.

  Thanks,

  Ari

As do I, but remember that Apple has an app that is simply called
"podcasts". It is free, compared to Downcast or Overcast, which are both great
but cost money. Start with Podcasts, and if you want to learn more about the
other two apps, AppleVis.com has entries on both of them and even a podcast on
Overcast, part of which is a comparison to Downcast.
