Alex,

Typically the GM release is what is released to the public 8 days later.
There are no changes unless a total showstopper is reported like maybe phone
calls for all users are getting cut off after 30 seconds or something
drastic like that.

Having said that Apple is usually quite quick to release minor updates after
the official release so let's hope some of the more nasty Voiceover bugs
will get squashed soon.

Reminder: we're talking about the GM, not the final release. The NDA still
covers all bugs, features, and everything else about iOS8, and there is the
chance that Apple will fix the bugs you're reporting by the official
release. I'm not a moderator, but talking about this stuff does break
Apple's NDA and so is not allowed on this list, as far as I know.

It's useable, and iOS 8 is stabil, but you may run into some inconveniences.
It's hard for me to tell somebody to go ahead or not because everybody is
different. Keep in mind that bluetooth keyboard support is very bad and if
you are in the habit of manually dialing phone numbers iOS 8 is a pain in
the neck because quite often as you dial one of the numbers just decides to
stick and the DialTone goes on and on. As a minimum you have to bring up the
app switcher and throw the phone app out, then try again. Prior to the
Goldmaster I had to actually totally shut down the phone and reboot in order
to stop the DialTone.

Are you willing to comment as to whether version 8 is not very usable
with these bugs or not? I'm one of these who wants to install new
things asap regardless of the consequences. However, if it is so buggy
that it's hard to use then I won't. The problems which people
complained about last year didn't bother me to much if that says
anything.

A very positive article, what it unfortunately does not mention is that

iOS

8 at this time (the Goldmaster or release version) has the most Voiceover
issues of any release and some of these are not just little things like
Voiceover saying "Screen Locked" twice which it did for a long time after
iOS 7 was released.

I have been running the iOS 8 Beta since June and as far as I can tell

Apple

has listened to hardly any of the feedback and bug reports provided by

blind

beta testers. There have been 5 Beta versions and now the Goldmaster and
almost all of the most serious and annoying bugs are still there. I hope
that they react faster once the public release happens next Wednesday and
hopefully blind people start flooding Apple Accessibility with emails and
phone calls about these issues.

I will post a list of the 5 or so bugs which bug me the most and which I
know other beta testers have reported as soon as the iOS 8 update comes

out.

Anybody who wants to read about them just look for a post on Wednesday,
September 17 with subject "The top 5 most annoying bugs in iOS 8 with
Voiceover".

What bothers me is that a few of these issues are not specifically
accessibility related and they don't happen if Voiceover is not running

but

as soon as Voiceover is on you suddenly are plagued by this and that.

Sieghard
