Jonathan, that's really nice of you! I'm super excited to read your book and
find out all about iOS 8! Can't wait for release day!

Thanks,
Ari

Hi Lynn and all. It might be best to withhold your judgment for a bit. I'm
not denying there are some real annoyances with this release, and depending on
how you use your device, they'll be more of a bother to you than they will be
for others. But for me, weighing up the good and bad, I'd still upgrade. There
is just so much to like about iOS 8.
I'm planning on releasing iOS 8 Without the Eye a few hours before the
software goes live so people get a chance to read it. In the email going out
containing the book, there is a summary of the major bugs, consequences, and
possible work-arounds. So those getting the book can hopefully make up their
minds about whether upgrading is right for them by release time.

Wow, what a shame. I was so excited about iOS eight and even getting a new
phone, but with what you are saying, it seems I shouldn't do either, at least
for a while. Thanks so much for the heads up. At least now I won't be in such a
hurry to update or get the new phone.

I'm assuming that my new phone will come with iOS8 installed. If so, I
will hold my other phone and maybe my iPad back until I have worked with it on
the new phone and I will advise a couple of people I help not to update
immediately so that either things will improve or I will know how tohelp them
first. But if I can use the new iOS on my new phone, then I will update my
other devices even if there are some bugs.

first and that probably won't happen for a few more weeks, I am eligible

Then again, who knows, I may go for it anyway but at this moment I am
of the

Are you willing to comment as to whether version 8 is not very usable
with these bugs or not? I'm one of these who wants to install new
things asap regardless of the consequences. However, if it is so buggy
that it's hard to use then I won't. The problems which people
complained about last year didn't bother me to much if that says
        anything.

A very positive article, what it unfortunately does not mention is
that

        iOS

8 at this time (the Goldmaster or release version) has the most
Voiceover
issues of any release and some of these are not just little things
like
Voiceover saying "Screen Locked" twice which it did for a long time
after
          iOS 7 was released.

I have been running the iOS 8 Beta since June and as far as I can tell

        Apple

has listened to hardly any of the feedback and bug reports provided by

        blind

beta testers. There have been 5 Beta versions and now the Goldmaster
and
almost all of the most serious and annoying bugs are still there. I
hope
that they react faster once the public release happens next Wednesday
and
hopefully blind people start flooding Apple Accessibility with emails
and
          phone calls about these issues.

I will post a list of the 5 or so bugs which bug me the most and
which I
know other beta testers have reported as soon as the iOS 8 update
comes

        out.

Anybody who wants to read about them just look for a post on
Wednesday,
September 17 with subject "The top 5 most annoying bugs in iOS 8 with
          Voiceover".

What bothers me is that a few of these issues are not specifically
accessibility related and they don't happen if Voiceover is not
running

        but

as soon as Voiceover is on you suddenly are plagued by this and that.
