Hopefully this space will be recovered after the installation, so in
the end it should end up the same, the issue may be that some users may
not have enough space on the device for the actual download.

Someone on this list has already reported this, but I just wanted to second it.
I was just reading an article about the number of people who are using
social media to complain to apple about how much space it used on the
device to download and update iOS 8. The article reminded people that
using iTunes would take far less room on the device. I don’t have the
numbers handy, but it is a significant difference.
