I actually had a little trouble getting started with the KNFB app. I had my co-worker observe me and she says that any reasonably smart sighted person can give you enough tips to get going. First, I was having trouble achieving level. even though there were the vibrations, I couldn't get them stopped. We determined that what I think is tilted toward me is actually level. Now that I know this, the vibrations readily stop which means it's really level after all. Then we determined that my sense of 8-10 inches wasn't right and I have to hold my phone higher. For me, it's about face level. She says it's pretty hard to hold it too high for a standard page. After getting those pieces of feedback from her observations, I'm now scanning with almost no difficulty. So getting a sighted person to observe and give feedback may be helpful for people who don't have a good sense of direction or space. I generally do, but didn't seem to have it for this. But it can be learned and then the app can reinforce the right things.
