Hi,

They recommend 8 to 10 inches above the document. The field of view report
tells you anyway if it sees all 4 sides if not, you just raise it a bit.
There is excellent indication as to whether you are covering the whole
document, if you are rotated left or right and also if you are tilted. I
don't know what else they can give us to be positioned correctly. In fact,
I can do it very well without my StandScan. Of course, if I still want to
use my StandScan, it will work perfectly and it probably will be great if I
have long documents. It probably would save me some time.

Hummmnmnm,.... the logic of it threw me too, so are we to understand the
app can't learn to rotate and process the image the other way? I know some
of the smarter pc based reader apps did this.

Kertsweil springs to mind.

Getting range or distence right would help too; wonder if they recommend a
viewing distence for this?

Those scanning boxes have their uses then, though not a portable solution.

Hi,

I'm no photographer, but I am a math and science guy. If you are saying that

taking a landscape picture of a page that is essentially a portrait improves

results, that makes no logical sense. The number of pixels lost is on the
order of 40%. You lose about 20% on the left and right sides to meaningless
background if a full portrait page is in view in landscape

I don't buy it. There must be another factor contributing to the issue.
Unless of course, the OCR engine works better with fewer pixels.
