Yes, it will be interesting to see what companies will be showing at the next Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. Developers both for hardware and for apps had access to iOS 8 Beta since June and hopefully we'll start seeing devices soon.

It is more of a communications standard so that appliances can hook into Siri and a unified control system, but there is no user-facing app yet, it's all behind the scenes and brand new for the moment.
