I did provide detailed step-by-step instructions on how to downgrade on
Sunday (September 21, 4 days ago).
On Monday or Tuesday somebody else who isn't checking the list asked and I
reposted a link to find my post in the archive.
Yesterday somebody else asked yet again at which point I explained how to
find my article in the archives. It's right there and there is a klink to go
to the archive at the bottom of every message including this one, once you
are there all you have to do is search for "7.1.2" and look for my post from
Sunday which has a subject of "Still possible to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 as
of today (Sunday, September 21".

It is, by the way, still possible to downgrade at least it was as of
yesterday when I listened to the latest episode of the Today in iOS podcast.
Rob confirmed that Apple was still signing the 7.1.2 firmware. Anybody who
is not happy with iOS 8 to the point that they wish they would not have
installed it (probably after ignoring all the warnings or just not caring to
read them) should consider downgrading now. It is quite possible that once
Apple releases the fixed iOS 8.0.1 update that they could stop signing 7.1.2
any day now.

For those who want more instructions beyond what I provided, go to
www.TodayInIOS.com and check out the latest episode. Rob has put a link into
the show notes about how to downgrade.

Good luck,
Sieghard

I downgraded my iPhone to iOS 7.1.2 on Sunday and then did the iOS 8 update
again via iTunes. I told it to first only download iOS 8 and not download
and install and it relatively quickly told me the download would take 5
hours. Since I had other stuff to do I just let it sit there and it probably
did take the full 5 hours, didn't really check, but it did finish
downloading eventually and then the update went smoothly.

Regards,
Sieghard
