I just had an email response from KNFB Reader support that told me that they know about the issue and that they are investigating the latency issues with the interface and will have an update to the app soon that will fix the issue.
He also told me that the latency is due to the camera access that the app needs. If you go to Settings/Privacy and disable the camera access for the app you will notice that the latency issue goes away, but this will also mean that the app does not work because without camera access we cannot take pictures of our documents.
