The $249 iPad Mini is the first generation in a 16 Gb version. I don't know why anybody would not spend $50 more and buy an iPad Mini Retina or, I guess now it's the iPad Mini 2, because it has the A7 64 bit processor as well as a Retina screen. This may not be important for you, but if you ever were to sell it that would probably get you your $50 back. Of course \I think it's even better to save up a bit longer and spend $399 for a 64 Gig iPad Mini 2. At least then you won't regret not getting more storage space and with apps getting bigger 16 Gb is not that much as it only leaves you around 12 Gb. If you wanted to use the Alex voice you could not do so on the original iPad Mini, but you can on the iPad Mini 2. Of course Alex by itself is almost 1 Gb.
