This list is just for iDevices, but obviously the occasional question on
the Mac is allowed. Best to just let the moderator and owner address
this issue. They usually weigh in if it gets to be too much.

I did not think that Maxwell a lot discussed on this list. I thought this was
just an iPhone iPod iPad list. If this is different, please let me know
somebody.

Yes this worked fine. I was actually pretty close with what I was
doing. I was pressing tab instead of enter and that doesn't work. I
also thought the beep when I pressed command F5 was not the first beep
we needed. So it works fine.
BTW, Apple has or had a support page on all this but it gets a page
not found error now. Yikes.

Oh wow! Didn't realize all of this was accessible. May check this out as
would be cool to encrypt my entire system disk. So much for the other
platform and its comparative feature <smile>.

Hello,
After the startup chime, after several seconds, press Command F5 to start
VO. Then you should hear a single beep. Type the name or account and press
enter. Then you will hear two beeps. Type your password and press enter.
You will hear three beeps and your unit will complete booting.
So it will be one beep for name, two beeps and password, three beeps and
your machine will boot. If you missed typed info, you will hear the
current beep again. For example if you goofed on the password, that is it
the two beeps point. Just retype your password.

I set up File Vault after upgrading to Yosemite. It never showed me a
key or offered to have me save that to Apple. But I do know the
password.
So my Mac boots and then nothing happens. I understand that there
should be a beep and I should type my directory name and hit return.
Then I should fill in the password and hit return again. I've gotten
that from searching list archives. But I never get a beep. And nothing
enters. I did get an option once to change my password which I got
fred to read, so I definitely know my password and the directory name
because I saw them then. But now I can't get Fred again and I can't
log in at all. I'm stressed! LOL!
I promise I'll turn off this feature and be less secure if I ever get
back into my Mac. I just don't know why I'm not getting the beep to
enter the home directory.
