I listened to that podcast and the site I use the most, it didn't work. In
my case, reloading the page fixes the issues.

there was a great podcast with a workaround for this issue. If you touch the
top of the screen, the address bar in Safari, the problem goes away. It
works in iOS 8. I haven't updated yet so don't know for sure that it will
still work, but I think it probably will.

unreadable page, then reopen Safari. It should open on the page that
VoiceOver wouldn't read. Is it readable now? I admit that either of
these solutions are way more trouble than they should be, but if it makes
it readable, until they fix it, maybe it is the only way.
