I suppose this is going to depend how full your device is, and that being
so, for methods other than through iTunes, space will be the limiting
factor for downloading, unpacking and installing.

I just plugged phone to the AC power and left it until it had downloaded, I
didn't ask, I just waited for it to come down automatically, which it did by
the time it was fully charged and running on AC power. From there, I found
it in software update with just an install button, and let it get on with
that while I waited, took 15 minutes or so on the 4S; but it went down
saying rebooting, and the next thing I heard was the prompts when the screen
locks. So I clicked power and it got back to the normal lock screen and got
in quite normally and it's all done and working as it ought. Fiddled a bit
since, seems good.

I'm inclined to believe that installation will do a great deal more when
upgrading from a full or main version, I know I had to give apple id and
password twice or so when going up to 8.0.

So, those are my current thoughts, not sure if they help.

Hi: I haven't upgraded from IOS 7 on my iphone 4s. every time I check for
upgrades I see the upgrade and the prompt to download and install. I have
never had the experience of having Apple automaticly download the upgrade.

If you wait long enough at some point when you put Voiceover focus on the
Settings app you will hear “Settings, 1 new item” instead of just “Settings”.

Subject: Clarification On How the iOS Upgrade Process Works Automatically?

Hi, all,In the past, I've always downloaded iOS upgrades manually. This
time, I'm going to compromise and let it download itself and let me know
when it's ready to install. How does this normally work? At some point in
the next few days, will I get a notification that it's ready to install? Can
I monitor its download in Settings,General, usage or Software Update?

Thanks,

Teresa
