You can just double tap the play button which appears momentarily after you lift your finger.

Can you listen to the recorded message before you send it?

You have to double tap and hold on record audio. Another way you can do it is
to raise your phone to your ear once you are in a message, wait for the two
tones, then speak your message, let your hand down, and then press send.

Subject: Audio Messaging On IOS8

Hi friends,

Just tried it quickly but for some reason, couldn’t get it to work, am I going
about it the right way as follows:
I go in to a new message, add recipient then add a contact who is an IPhone and
IMessage user.
I double tap in the message text and then double tap the send audio button. I
assume that it is then recording and I speak my message and double two finger
tap on the screen when done.
This doesn’t seem to work from there on, it seems to think that I am trying to
enter something in to the to box?
