When I go over to the list of artists, I use the context menu to see if an artist is checked or not. I only check the artists I want synced to my iPhone and after checking the artists I want (or actually unchecking the artists I don't want since the default is that they're checked) then when I sync with my iPhone only those artists that are still checked will end up on my iPhone. I'm not sure how helpful this is. I can't check the actual wording of these fields and buttons at the moment since I'm not in Windows right now.
