Charles, If you are a Windows user you can connect your iPhone to the PC with the Lightning cable. If you have pictures on the phone there is a good change the "Internal Storage" folder of the iPhone will open automatically, if not just go to Computer with the Windows Key+E shortcut, at the bottom of your list of drives you should find your iPhone. For photos you can open it just like a USB drive, just drill down through all the folders until you get to your images. You can then copy individual pictures or select all and copy them, then go to a folder on your computer and paste them with Control+v. Just remember to use Control+C for copy, you can't move (Control+x) or delete the pictures from your computer. If you want to delete them after you copied them you have to do this from the Photos app on your phone. You also can't copy pictures to your phone this way so they show up in the Photos app as pictures or albums, if you want to put pictures onto your phone you have to do so using iTunes.
