Hi Beverly, If the movies are in your Dropbox as opposed to in your iTunes library, your only option is to play the movie on your iPad Mini and to then use Airplay to send it to your Apple TV. In order to do that you would go into your Dropbox app and start the movie playing there. Then bring up the control centre, find the Airplay button and select Apple TV. The Airplay button is at the bottom right of the screen, I find it easiest to just touch the bottom left where the Flashlight app is and then to swipe left once.
If you have a computer with Dropbox on it and the movies are also in there you could just add them to your iTunes library. Then as long as you enable home sharing in iTunes and on your Apple TV and as long as your computer is on and iTunes is running, you can access all your iTunes media from the Computer tab on your Apple TV.
