I'm not sure what you're saying below, but if you're saying someone shouldn't upgrade their iPhone 4S to IOS 8 then I would say that depends. There are new features in IOS 8 that are supported on the 4S that someone may want to take advantage of. From following this list, I'm not aware of any bugs I'm seeing on my 4S that are specific to the 4S. As near as I can tell, I'm hitting the same bugs everyone else is on all devices. IOS 8.1.1 is also supposed to address issues on older devices, so that may be the version of IOS 8 to move to, assuming they also fix some of these VoiceOver bugs. So, I'd agree, if it isn't broken don't fix it, but if you want to take advantage of features like family sharing, braille input and so on then go ahead and update at some point.

You're right in that the 8 prefix supercedes the 7 and all other prefixes.
7.1.2 was the last of those and worth sticking with until you feel
comfortable enough to chance 8. That is almost certainly as far as you
should ever take a 4S; and if it's working Ok now and you don't need more
new or updated apps, there's no real reason to update it at all really.

Subject: iOS7 Updates

Hi, for the moment I've chosen not to update my 4S to iOS 8. Does that mean
I forego any updates to iOS 7? Are there even such things, or does Apple
stop updating previous operating systems after the new one has been
released?
