Neal, I have sort of the opposite issue. Once only once, I was in a voice message conversation with someone and as soon as I lowered the phone my messages were sent. Otherwise, I do have to tap the send button. I don't know what I did that one time I am not doing all the time to cause messages to send automatically.

If I hold down the record button to record a text message and then release the button, I then have a send button. That way, I can hear the audio before I send it.
