Hi Krister,

No, I have a Dlink NAS which I probably had for 6 or 8 years and I play the
music on there on my Sonos system all the time with no computer. You will
simply have to make a "Music" or "Music and Books" folder on your NAS and put
everything in there.

Now this I usually prefer to do in the Sonos Desktop Controller on my PC since
I can browse to the folder , if you use the iPhone app you can do this in
Settings, Manage Music Library and tap on the Music Library Setup button. On
the next screen you have a More Options button and here you can enter a new
shared folder. As I said, I haven't done this from iOS so I assume you have to
type in the full network path.

If you can do it from the Sonos Desktop Controller it will be easier, just type
"Alt+M" for the "Manage" menu, then arrow down to "Music Library Settings" and
on the Folders tab select the "Add" button.
Next select the "On a network device such as a network attached storage (NAS)
device.
Click "Next"
Now you can either type the path to your network share or tab to the Browse
button, activate it and browse to your N
AS folder and select it.

Also make sure to check the options under the Advanced tab where you can do
things like set a time when your music library is automatically reindexed and
you can check to let Sonos "Fix permissions on music files so that Sonos can
always access them". Keep in mind that if you copy new music into your music
folder on the NAS that you will not see this in your music library in the Sonos
app until Sonos has gone through an update/reindex which you can initiate
manually or set it to happen once a day at a particular time.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Subject: How do i make Sonos see i have a nas with music on it?

Hi, as you know by now, i am a bear with a very, very small brain so that’s why
i can’t get my thick head around how to make Sonos play from my Nas where i
will have all of my music and mp3 books stored as well as my Itunes library. My
nas is a Netgear Readynas Ultra ii and i want to be able to play music from it
even if my computer isn’t on. Is this at all possible or should i forget the
idea alltogether?
/Krister
