I am a big Amazon shopper and usually do it on my laptop. However, yesterday
the website was acting strange. I completed my order and then checked proceed
to checkout. It gave me the sign on screen to enter my password as it always
does but when I tried to type the password it was reading out the letters
instead of the “star, star, star” like it usually does. and I could not sign
in. I presume this was a problem with Jaws and probably would not affect
sighted users.
So I figured I would try the Amazon app on my phone and it worked perfectly.
My three items showed up and I completed the order easily. But what worries me
is that it never asked me to enter my password to complete the order as it does
on the regular Amazon website. This means that if anyone else had my phone
they could order from my account without ever knowing even my password. And
during the checkout process it showed the exact name on the card, the
expiration date, and the billing address. The only thing it did not show was
the first 12 digits of the card number.

The order went through and I received the regular email about the order. I did
physically sign out of the Amazon app before closing it just for safety sake.
So to protect yourself in this time of stolen ID’s I would advise you to be
sure to actually sign out of the Amazon app.
After signing out of the app there is a choice to not sign when opening it. I
tried this and was able to search and add items to cart, etc. So beware of
signing into the app unless you sign out.

HTH,
Sherrie Gosling
