Yes, there is a barometric sensor, but it is only to provide information to apps which use this information, e.g. a GPS app may offer more precise elevation readings by using barometric pressure to calculate elevation.
Here is part of what Apple says about the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and specifically about the M8 coprocessor and the sensors in the iPhone: M8 coprocessor. Technology that moves you forward. When you’re in motion, the M8 motion coprocessor continuously measures data from the accelerometer, compass, gyroscope and a new barometer. This offloads work from the A8 chip for improved power efficiency. And now those sensors do even more, measuring your steps, distance and elevation changes. Barometer The barometer senses air pressure to determine your relative elevation. So as you move, you can keep track of the elevation you’ve gained. It can even measure stairs climbed or hills conquered. Accelerometer The accelerometer can measure your distance for walking and running. And by using GPS to calibrate for your running stride, the sensor more accurately captures your movement. Gyroscope In addition to knowing whether you’re on the move or stationary, M8 works with the gyroscope to detect when you’re driving. It also kicks into action when you’re taking panoramic photos or playing games that react to your movement. This requires an initial calibration and occasional recalibration at a point where exact elevation is known, but if done correctly it is much more accurate than elevation readings which are based on GPS signals. Where can I find it? Thanks for any pointers. Max -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default.
