If you want to highlight a message and copy it to the clipboard you can press command a to select the whole message. Then switch the rotor to edit with the up and left or right arrow keys but first before you can do that you have to turn quick nav on by pressing the left and right arrows together. Then you can find the copy option by pressing the down arrow to find the copy option and then pressing the up and down arrow keys to select it. Next switch to the app that contains the text field that you want to paste the message in to and then press command v to paste the message.
