Hi DRC,
Thanks for all of the great work on the Java viewer - it's working really well
for us on Mac OS X !
I do have one concern about Java on Mac OS X, which is not really related to
retiring the X11 viewer.
In February 2013, Java 6, a.k.a. 1.6 (the Java Runtime Environment supplied by
Apple) reached its "End of Public Updates"
Apple developers are now encouraged to bundle a Java 7 runtime environment with
their application, so that the application is fully sandboxed (doesn't refer to
anything outside of "TurboVNC Viewer.app/").
The Oracle page on packaging Java apps for Mac
(http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/packagingAppsForMac.html)
says "In order to distribute a Java application, you want to avoid
dependencies on third party software. Your app package should include the Java
Runtime Environment, or JRE."
Are there any plans to bundle the JRE into the Mac distribution of TurboVNC
Viewer?
Thanks,
James
